1. | Eligibility : | The eligibility for PIO Card is for a Foreign Citizen of Indian Origin not being a citizen of Pakistan and Bangladesh (Or any other specified country) who | |||
|
(i) | Held an Indian Passport at any time, or | |||
(ii) | Who himself or whose parents, grand parents or great grand parents were born in and were permanently resident in India, or | ||||
|
(iii) | A spouse of citizen of India, or | |||
|
(iv) | A spouse of person covered under (i) or (ii) of above | |||

Validity :
|
PIO Card is valid for 15 years. | |||
3. |
Fees :
|
(i) | In case of an adult – US $ 310, | ||
|
(ii) | In case of Children below age of 18 years – US$ 155. | |||

"Indian Mission" i .e. the Embassy of Indian/ High Commission of India/ Indian Consulate in a foreign country where PIO resides. | |||

Existing PIO Holder :
|
The existing PIO Card will continue to remain valid. The Validity of such card will be extended of 10 more years without additional fees. | |||

Benefits / advantages
|
(i) | A PIO Card holder shall not require a visa to visit India. | ||
|
(ii) |
A PIO Card holder will be exempted from the requirement of registration if his stay in India does not exceed 180 days.
|

(iii) |
In the event of continuous stay in India of the PIO Card holder exceeding 180 days, he / she shall have to get himself/ herself registered within 30 days of the expiry of 180 days with the concerned Foreigners Registration Officer at District Headquarter
|
|||
|
(iv) |
A PIO Card holder shall enjoy parity with NRIs in respect of all facilities available to the latter in the economic, financial and educational fields except in matters relating to the acquisition of agricultural/plantation properties. No parity shall be allowed in the sphere of political rights.
